The diembe is a goblet shaped hand drum skinned with goat or calf skin.
Ftom its traditional home in West Africa the art of Diembe is now spreading all over the world faster than any other African hand drum.

There are many reasons why the diembe is so popular:
The deep bass and disinct tones & slaps, or it may be the African rhythms themselves that appeal to us. The fact that just a few people can bring a dance floor to life or maybe that right from the beginning of your jouney with diembe you can make music but never stop learning!
Men, women, young or old, African or not the diembe moves everybody.

Drumming can benefit students in a number of ways:
First and foremost it unites us;
It encourages creativity, spontaneity and flexibility;
It provides an opportunity for individuals to explore and change the way they interact with others;
It encourages respectful listening and response;
It develops leadership skills;
Stress is reduced;
It helps develop friendship, respect and appreciation.
